One of the things that made us choose 198 Cecil Road was the location. It gives you that lovely balance that can be surprisingly hard to find in Wellington — a peaceful, leafy residential setting while still being close to the city and all the things you actually need day to day.
It doesn't feel like you're living in the middle of Wellington. There is greenery around you, established homes and a much quieter atmosphere, but you're still only a short trip from the CBD and the surrounding inner suburbs.
For families, the location is particularly practical, with schools and early-childhood options close by, as well as parks, playgrounds and easy access to some of Wellington's beautiful bush and walking areas. Ōtari School and Wadestown School are both within roughly 800m, while Wilton Playcentre, Montessori at Ōtari and Childspace Wilton are also nearby.
What you don't necessarily get from looking at the photos is the feeling of the location. There is a real sense of being tucked away from the busyness of the city, while knowing that you're actually very close to it.
It's the sort of location that works for different stages of life — a first home, a smaller home for someone wanting to simplify, or a base for someone who wants Wellington on their doorstep without necessarily wanting to live amongst the noise and density of the central city.
For us, that combination of peace, greenery, accessibility and proximity to schools and amenities was a major part of the appeal.
The house itself is also positioned to make the most of its outlook and natural light, and the surrounding area gives it a feeling that photographs don't completely capture — you really need to stand there to appreciate how peaceful it feels.
